First Investors Tax Exempt Funds Win 2011 Lipper Fund Awards

New York, NY, April 19, 2011 - Two First Investors tax exempt mutual funds, managed by First Investors Management Company, Inc., have won a total of three prestigious 2011 Lipper Fund Awards.

The First Investors Minnesota Tax Exempt Fund, Class A, was recognized as the top fund among 52 funds for consistent return in the Single-State Insured Municipal Debt Fund category for the 10-year period ending December 31, 2010. The First Investors North Carolina Tax Exempt Fund, Class A, was recognized as the top Single-State Insured Municipal Debt Fund out of 52 funds in two categories: for the 3-year period ending December 31, 2010 and for the 5-year period ending December 31, 2010.

The winners were chosen from among all funds registered for sale in the United States with at least 36 months of performance history as of December 31, 2010. The Lipper Fund Awards honor individual mutual funds that Lipper believes have delivered "consistently strong risk-adjusted performance" relative to their peers over a given time period. Lipper presents the awards each year at ceremonies held in 22 countries around the world.

Lipper uses a proprietary fund rating system to determine the winning funds. This ensures that the Lipper Fund Awards are both performance-based and objective. The leading fund for consistent return value within each of the eligible classifications determines the winner over three, five or ten years. Sales charges are not taken into account in the calculation of fund rankings.

Robert M. Flanagan, President of First Investors Corporation, says that while First Investors doesn't usually tout the performance of its funds, "We are very proud of the results that portfolio manager Clark Wagner has achieved for the funds' shareholders and we appreciate the recognition Lipper has provided."
